Final Report

What is the status of the Victorian Floods Review final report?
In accordance with the review's terms of reference, the Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response final report was provided to the Premier on Thursday 1 December 2011. 

When will the final report be available?
The Review of the 2010–11 Flood Warnings and Response final report was released by the Victorian Government on Thursday 8 December 2011.

How can I get a copy of the final report?
The final report is available in Acrobat PDF and Microsoft word file from About the Review section of this website.

Hard copies of the final report can be obtained from the Victorian Government Bookshop at Level 20, 80 Collins Street (Tel: 1300 366 356) or by ordering online through www.vic.gov.au.  Shortly, hard copies will also be available for review at the Department of Premier and Cabinet's regional offices in Bendigo and Ballarat and also at Department of Human Services' eight regional offices.

Interim Report 

What is the status of the Victorian Floods Review interim report?
In accordance with the review's terms of reference, the Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response interim report was provided to the Premier on Thursday, 30 June 2011.

When will the interim report be available?
On 11 July, 2011 Acting Premier and Minister for Police and Emergency Services Peter Ryan released the interim report of the Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response.

Community Consultation Meetings

What was the purpose of the community consultation meetings?
The purpose of the consultation meetings was for individuals from flood-affected communities to discuss their experiences and views about key issues to identify the best way to manage major flood events in the future.

The information gathered during the consultation meetings will assist the review to clarify the issues and questions it needs to answer in accordance with its terms of reference.

Who could attend the meetings?
The consultation meetings were open to people living or working in the communities directly affected by the 2010 and 2011 flood events.

The media were invited to attend the introductory part of the consultation meetings, however the rest of the meeting was restricted to community members.

Where were the meetings held?
The review held community consultation meetings in 17 locations.

Due to the extent of the flood impact across the state, the review was unable to offer consultation meetings in each flood-affected area within the review’s timeframe.

Meeting locations were selected to provide the review with an opportunity to hear a broad spectrum of community knowledge and experience based on a range of flood events and flood impact across the state.

For those unable to attend the consultation meetings, written submissions addressing the review's terms of reference, provided a key way for individuals and organisations to contribute to the review.

What was the format of the meetings?
The consultation meetings ran for approximately an hour and a half and were run by external facilitators on behalf of the review. Community members were asked to workshop issues in roundtable groups, and provide a verbal summary at the end of each meeting.

In most locations, one consultation meeting was held in the evening, generally from 6.30pm – 8.00pm. Community members were invited to meet informally with review members over light refreshments before the meeting commenced.

Written Submissions

What is the purpose of a written submission?
Written submissions, addressing the review’s terms of reference, provided a key way for individuals and organisations to contribute to the review.

Is there a closing date for written submissions?
Written submissions to the review closed 5pm on Friday, 27 May 2011.

How will the submissions be used?
The review received more than 150 written submissions covering a range of matters relevant to its terms of reference.

The information gathered through these submissions assisted the review to clarify the issues and questions it needed to answer in accordance with its terms of reference.

The review will not publish submissions on the internet, however a list of organisations and agencies that provided written submissions to the review is recorded at Appendix 2 of the final report. For reasons of confidentiality, the identity of persons making private submissions has not been stated.
